Spotlight On...

Michelle Sharpley

Michelle completed our 10 session induction training for new volunteers in July 2021. In September she began supporting Stacy Reilly, our Family Support Worker, in running our courses for small groups of autistic children.

We asked Michelle.....

Why did you want to volunteer at Mustard Seed?

As a mum of an autistic child I know how there is very little help/support out there for our children. My son attended Mustard Seed, and as a very anxious child I wasn’t sure how he would cope, but over the weeks his confidence grew and he achieved so much. Knowing I had the opportunity to be on the other side and being able to help give other children the opportunity my son had and be a part of their journey is just an amazing opportunity and one I am so grateful to be a part of.

What have you enjoyed so far?

I have really enjoyed working with Stacy in the Chill Out Zone and seeing how adaptable she makes it for the children! I have really enjoyed meeting some amazing children, watching them shine over the weeks! Also enjoyed being a part of the background, just helping out, making resources, anyway I can to help the team to help the children!

What are you looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to helping more children in anyway I can be of help! Watching Mustard Seed at work is incredible, being able to watch these incredible children’s journeys is amazing but being a part of it is so much better!

What would you say to anyone thinking about volunteering for a charity?

Volunteering for a charity is such a rewarding thing to be able to do especially one that means so much to you! It doesn’t have to be a big commitment any little time you have can help! But if your considering helping, reach out speak to the team you won’t regret it!!

We love having Michelle on the team and really appreciate her support and commitment. Thanks Michelle!
